Update from Uganda (Signers and Speakers United)

Last Sunday we went to the bilingual church in Entebbe, Calvary Chapel.

We enjoyed some lovely signed worship followed by a meeting with the churches deaf signing members to discuss their interest in Family Sign Workshops in their own homes.

Several parents had hearing children. Few, if any, knew any sign language. Helen tried to persuade one of the signers hearing children to sit with his parent and try the teaching aids I had brought.

The boy was interested but his parent could not keep his attention to show him new family signs. There was some interest for home visits.

However we can see that the parents first need more help to teach new signs to their children. Our Family Sign resource also needs updating. A useful session.

Next Sunday we hope to do a bilingual bible study and dramatisation on a passage from Gen. 50.

Adam
